Ex-ministra do Meio Ambiente da Nigéria é nomeada vice-secretária-geral da ONU

Amina Mohammed foi ministra do Meio Ambiente e conselheira especial do ex-líder das Nações Unidas sobre desenvolvimento sustentável, desempenhando um importante papel na criação da Agenda 2030 de Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Ela tomou posse na última terça-feira, 28, na sede da organização em Nova Iorque.

Após a cerimônia, a vice-chefe da ONU fará um discurso no Conselho Econômico e Social, o que será seu primeiro compromisso oficial. Ela deve falar com correspondentes estrangeiros na sede da ONU, logo após o evento.

Meio Ambiente

Amina Mohammed era ministra do Meio Ambiente da Nigéria, mas no fim do ano passado, ela foi escolhida pelo novo chefe da ONU, António Guterres, para ser a vice-secretária-geral da organização, o segundo cargo mais alto da ONU.

Esta não é a primeira vez em que Mohammed trabalha nas Nações Unidas. No ano passado, ela foi conselheira especial do então secretário-geral Ban Ki-moon sobre o planejamento de desenvolvimento pós-2015, quando participou na criação da Agenda 2030.

Mohammed também é professora na Universidade de Columbia, em Nova Iorque, na área de desenvolvimento e participa de diversos painéis e conselhos consultivos internacionais sobre a questão.
