JPS-RJ integra o Dia Mundial de Limpeza de Rios e Praias

Os integrantes do Programa Jovens Profissionais do Saneamento da ABES-RJ (JPS-RJ)  integraram, neste final de semana, o Dia Mundial de Limpeza de Rios e Praias. A ação foi realizada pelos jovens na praia da Urca, no Rio.

O Dia Mundial da Limpeza em Rios em Praias é um movimento internacional que promove a campanha de limpeza de rios e praias em todo o mundo no mês de setembro, apelidado de “Clean Up the World” ou “International Costal Clean Up”, pelas organizações que iniciaram o movimento de despoluição na Austrália e América do Norte nos anos 80. É a maior ação global para limpeza do planeta.

Promovido por diversas instituições que atuam com conservação marinha e políticas públicas, a ação chegou ao Brasil nos anos 90 com o título: Dia Mundial da Limpeza em Rios e Praias – DMLRP.

O Dia Mundial da Limpeza em Rios e Praias – DMLRP é um dos programas internacionais de meio ambiente mais inspiradores e efetivos que existe e é apoiado pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), através do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA).

Durante a mobilização, que sempre ocorre no terceiro sábado do mês de setembro (ou chegada da primavera – 21 de setembro), voluntários em todas as partes do mundo vão às praias, rios, praças, parques, trilhas, etc coletar o “lixo” depositado diretamente pelos usuários desses locais ou por descargas originadas por outras fontes.

O evento já envolveu mais de 35 milhões de pessoas em diversas partes do mundo. O DMLRP vem possibilitando no longo prazo, mudanças de atitudes e comportamentos em nível local e global.

A ideia é simples. Voluntários atuam na limpeza da sua comunidade, transformando o ambiente em um local mais agradável e saudável para viver. As limpezas são coordenadas por grupos comunitários, coletivos, ambientalistas, colégios, escolas, bandeirantes, departamentos de governos, empresas e indivíduos dedicados ao meio ambiente.
