Com o objetivo de debater com técnicos e a sociedade as melhores formas de despoluir os rios de São Paulo, a Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental ABES e a Fundação Fernando Henrique Cardoso promoveram nesta terça, 30 de abril, em São Paulo, mais uma edição do Círculo do Saneamento. O Seminário “Despoluição do Pinheiros: o que pode significar para a cidade” aconteceu na sede da fundação, na capital paulista, e contou com a participação da palestrante internacional, Emma Harrington, que compartilhou a experiência sobre o rio Tâmisa, em Londres, Inglaterra, e do ex-Presidente da República, Fernando Henrique Cardoso.

O presidente nacional da ABES, Roberval Tavares de Souza, abriu o evento, ao lado de Sérgio Fausto, superintendente da Fundação FHC, agradecendo a participação dos especialistas. E aproveitou para lembrar aos presentes que a discussão é um aquecimento para novos debates sobre o tema que acontecerão no 30º Congresso da ABES, que será realizado de 16 a 19 de junho, no Centro de Convenções de Natal, no Rio Grande do Norte.
“A ABES vem trabalhando há 53 anos no Brasil para promover o debate com relação ao saneamento. A questão da despoluição dos rios brasileiros é muito forte. Estamos a 45 dias do nosso Congresso e das nossas 64 mesas da programação, 18 falarão em despoluição de águas – rios, mar, lagos. Os principais especialistas e técnicos do país abordarão o tema”, destacou Roberval. Sobre o rio Pinheiros, enfatizou que “a ABES acredita no envolvimento de todas as partes interessadas para que consigamos realizar esse sonho da despoluição do Pinheiros e do Tietê. O Governo do Estado e a Sabesp vêm trabalhando forte para que isso aconteça e pela primeira vez na história isto é palpável”.
O presidente da Sabesp, Benedito Braga, ministrou palestra com o tema “Os Rios de São Paulo”, apresentando o que a empresa está fazendo para garantir que o Pinheiros seja despoluído dentro de um prazo curto, e ressaltou a importância do envolvimento e a atuação conjunta com as Prefeituras de São Paulo e Região Metropolitana, meios de comunicação, população e sociedade civil organizada. Mostrando uma imagem simulada de um rio despoluído, encerrou: “quem sabe em 2022 possamos ter esta foto real, que não seja um fotoshop”.
Emma Harrington, gerente sênior do programa de voluntariado, na Thames21, falou sobre o processo de despoluição do Rio Tâmisa, em Londres. Ela destacou a importância da conscientização da população, da comunicação com a sociedade, de campanhas de educação ambiental e das redes sociais como meio de gerar maior engajamento com as questões ambientais.
Rodolfo Costa e Silva Jr., consultor de saneamento, abordou a “integração dos rios às cidades”.
Já Ronaldo Camargo, presidente do EMAE e coordenador do Projeto Novo Pinheiros, falou sobre as estratégias do projeto “Novo Pinheiros”.
A consultora do Banco Mundial para programa voltados à universalização do saneamento no Brasil, Stela Goldenstein, fez os comentários finais do encontro, destacando, entre outros pontos, a questão das periferias, cujas “paisagens são tristes por não terem infraestrutura. E a tendência, quando chega a infraestrutura, é esconder os rios. Um das razões é a questão da poluição” disse.
O ex-presidente Fernando Henrique Cardoso, que encerrou o evento, afirmou sobre a questão da despoluição que é preciso “entusiasmar a população em direção daquilo que os técnicos já sabem, mas tem que mobilizar os recursos para que seja possível transformar o que é uma aspiração em uma prática. Estamos neste caminho. Precisamos de mais paixão”, concluiu.
