No Brasil, 8 em cada 10 pessoas declaram já ter tido problemas por falta de saneamento. Ainda assim, 69% dos brasileiros subestimam a situação. Os dados são da pesquisa “Banheiros Mudam Vidas: Descobrindo como os brasileiros percebem o saneamento básico – e como podemos nos engajar”, realizada pela Kimberly-Clark, por meio de sua marca Neve, com apoio da ABES-SP (Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – Seção São Paulo).
Entre outros pontos, a pesquisa também revela que 17% dos brasileiros superestimam o tamanho do problema na área do saneamento e apenas 14% da população do país têm noção real de quais situações são enfrentadas no setor. Ao todo, 51,29% dos brasileiros têm acesso a esgoto, segundo dados do JMP (Joint Monitoring Programme) for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene da WHO (World Health Organization) e Unicef.
A pesquisa foi lançada nesta terça-feira, 26 de outubro. O evento foi realizado por meio do Zoom com moderação da jornalista Rosana Jatobá. Participaram Roseane M. Garcia Lopes de Souza, diretora da ABES-SP e coordenadora da Câmaras de Resíduos Sólidos e Saúde Ambiental da ABES; Andrea Rolim, presidente da Kimberly-Clark Brasil; Patricia Macedo, diretora de marketing da Kimberly-Clark Brasil; Gary White, CEO e cofundador da Water.Org; Carlo Pereira, diretor executivo do Pacto Global da ONU; e Ricardo Oliani, coordenador de projetos sociais da Biomovement Ambiental. “A gente precisa realmente alavancar no Brasil essa discussão. A ABES parabeniza a pesquisa que veio trazendo dados que são invisíveis e que a gente precisa trabalhar e mostrar para a comunidade. A ABES já fala que saneamento é saúde, mas ainda temos que estar toda hora falando porque para a sociedade a saúde ainda está muito assistencial, então essa é uma diferença que tem que ser dada”, considerou Roseane.
Na ocasião, a diretora da ABES-SP explicou que são cerca de 100 milhões de brasileiros sem rede de esgoto, o que faz com que os dejetos sejam lançados no meio ambiente, causando impacto tanto ambiental quanto na saúde.
“A ABES faz muito esse movimento de dizer que uma população sem saneamento é uma população sem saúde”, disse Roseane. “A gente verificou no ano passado, com a pandemia, que a falta de água faz a vulnerabilidade daquela população que não tem água tratada. Isso é muito problemático e a ABES acredita que nós precisamos do engajamento do setor público, das ONGS e das empresas privadas. Só com esforço coletivo a gente vai universalizar o saneamento no Brasil. Em 2033, a Lei do Saneamento aponta para 99% da população ter água tratada e 90% ter rede, coleta e tratamento de esgoto. O desafio está lançado e é de todos”, finalizou.
A iniciativa Banheiros Mudam Vidas é uma coalizão formada por instituições que defendem o acesso ao saneamento básico no Brasil. O objetivo é dar visibilidade ao tema, criando um ambiente favorável para o debate e fomento a soluções.
Além da parceria com a ABES-SP, o lançamento também é realizado em parceria com o Pacto Global das Nações Unidas, a Water.org, o Plan International, a Redes da Maré, o Projeto Saúde & Alegria e a ONG TETO.
