ABES-RS realiza primeiro evento preparatório do 12º Simpósio Internacional de Qualidade Ambiental – SIQA

Webinar aconteceu nesta terça (4), por meio do programa ABES Conecta, e teve como tema “Em todo Cientista, um JEDI: Justiça, Equidade, Diversidade e Igualdade como a única saída para um futuro sustentável”. Assista no canal no YouTube.

A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental Seção Rio Grande do Sul (ABES-RS) realizou, nesta terça-feira, 04 de outubro, o primeiro evento preparatório do 12º Simpósio Internacional de Qualidade Ambiental – SIQA. 

O evento aconteceu online por meio do ABES Conecta, com transmissão pelo YouTube, com o tema “Em todo Cientista, um JEDI: Justiça, Equidade, Diversidade e Igualdade como a única saída para um futuro sustentável”. O simpósio é promovido pela ABES-RS, em parceria com a Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento – Corsan.

“Depois de uma breve interrupção, voltamos com esse evento tradicional que é uma parceria da ABES-RS com a PUC-RS e a UFRGS. Em breve, será divulgada a chamada dos trabalhos técnicos”, ressaltou a presidente da ABES-RS, Ana Elizabeth Carara, sobre o simpósio. “Este tema é muito atual e importante no cenário do nosso país”, completou, acerca do assunto do evento desta terça.

O webinar foi moderado por Andréa Moura Bernardes, professora titular do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Minas, Metalurgia e Materiais da UFRGS. A moderadora é graduada em Engenharia Química pela PUC-RS.

Para falar sobre o assunto “Em todo Cientista, um JEDI”, a palestrante convidada foi a Dra. Maria Augusta Arruda, diretora de Desenvolvimento de Pesquisadores na Researcher Academy da Universidade de Nottingham, e presidente da Rede de Igualdade Racial da mesma instituição.

“Gostaria de expressar o enorme prazer de estar aqui neste importante momento. É importante manter a comunidade unida e reunida em torno destes temas. Esse é um momento de reflexão conjunta e não estou colocando verdades, mas a chance de refletirmos sobre o nosso papel enquanto cientistas e educadores em reinventar e repensar um futuro sustentável”, enfatizou.

“Tem se falado muito de equidade, diversidade e inclusão em todo o mundo. É importante ter essas conversas no Brasil. Eu já moro há 11 anos no Reino Unido e o sentimento que eu tenho é que nós somos um pouco tímidos para falar sobre esse tema, que machuca, por conta do nosso passado colonial e escravagista, em um país com 56% de pessoas negras e uma população indígena dizimada, ainda vivendo em situação de insegurança, holisticamente. É importante lembrarmos que equidade, diversidade e inclusão são só palavras, se não se coloca a justiça como preocupação prioritária. Essa sigla JEDI, de certa forma, é uma brincadeira com os Jedis do Star Wars”, explicou.

A palestrante detalhou os pontos “Justiça, Equidade, Diversidade e Igualdade”, além das consequências ecológicas e evolutivas do racismo. Maria Augusta Arruda também contextualizou a ciência dentro destes conceitos e abordou a importância da educação no desenvolvimento científico. Ao final da apresentação dela, os pontos foram discutidos também à luz do saneamento básico.

“É bastante importante discutirmos essas questões de diversidade quando queremos falar de sustentabilidade. Ligando um pouco com o que a ABES faz, menos de 9% da população mundial são homens brancos. Quando se fala em coisas simples, como o saneamento, vemos que estes homens vivem em lugares com saneamento totalmente adequado, enquanto o resto da população não. Como é possível falar em sustentabilidade, se a gente tem locais em que sequer o saneamento básico está resolvido? Enquanto isso não for discutido como deve ser, em termos de diversidade, e fazer com que todas as cabeças possam pensar da mesma maneira, fica mais difícil para quem sempre viveu em um ambiente certinho imaginar viver em um lugar sem saneamento”, considerou a moderadora. Confira a íntegra do webinar aqui.
