Foi realizada nos dias 10 e 11 de novembro, em Brasília, no Distrito Federal, a reunião plenária do Conama – Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente, logo após o rompimento das barragens da Mineradora Samarco de Mariana, que ocorreu no dia 5. O encontro reuniu a ministra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, o representante do governo de Minas Gerais, subsecretário Geraldo Vitor de Abreu e representantes da sociedade civil, entre as quais a ABES, representada por Célia Rennó, coordenadora da Câmara Temática de Gestão de Recursos Hídricos da entidade. Na ocasião, os participantes fizeram relatos dos fatos ocorridos em Mariana e demonstraram sua indignação com a tragédia.
A reunião, de acordo com Célia Rennó, foi iniciada com um minuto de silêncio em homenagem às vitimas do acidente. As quinze entidades fizeram a entrega de um pedido de moção ao Conama requerendo do Ibama, DNPM e órgãos licenciadores de estados mineradores ações de controle e fiscalização ambiental mais eficientes sobre esses empreendimentos.
Durante o encontro, segundo Célia, foi também reiterado que não é possível que acidentes como estes venham se repetindo tantas vezes em Minas Gerais, como os ocorridos em Itabirito em 2014 com três mortes, na Mineradora Rio Pomba, em Mirai, em 2007, e na Mineração Rio Verde de Nova Lima, em 2001, com cinco mortes. “Ainda mais quando se sabe que ainda há risco de outros rompimentos no empreendimento da Samarco”, diz.
Célia chama a atenção para o fato de existirem “centenas de barragens como estas no país, que devem ser licenciadas e fiscalizadas a fim de evitar desastres como estes. E se ocorrerem, que sejam gerados relatos esclarecedores e ações efetivas de melhoria contínua no controle e na fiscalização sobre esses empreendimentos”, salienta.
Ainda nas palavras de Célia: “neste contexto de crise hídrica, que ficou ainda mais agravado na Bacia do Rio Doce, invadido por um mar de lama, temos de refletir sobre como chegamos a este ponto”, diz. “Pensar sobre qual nosso papel na sociedade atual para que possamos promover uma reação e a mudança para uma nova sociedade na qual preservar e não poluir seja uma preocupação básica e fundamental, que permeie o dia a dia de todos os empreendimentos e da população em geral”.
