ABES-SP participa de debate sobre gestão de resíduos sólidos da Abrelpe

A diretora da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental Seção São Paulo (ABES-SP), Roseane M. Garcia Lopes de Souza, que também coordena as Câmaras Técnicas de Saúde Pública e de Resíduos Sólidos da entidade, participou, nesta quarta-feira, 5, do painel “Diálogos ABRELPE: 10 Visões para o Aprimoramento da Gestão de Resíduos’.

O evento, promovido pela Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Pública e Resíduos Especiais – ABRELPE, ocorreu no âmbito da XVIII Feira Internacional de Meio Ambiente Industrial e Sustentabilidade – FIMAI, no Expo Center Norte, em São Paulo.

Dentro da proposta do debate no qual cada um dos dez especialistas deveria responder, em 15 minutos, uma pergunta sobre o tema “Gestão de Resíduos Especiais”. Roseane discorreu sobre a questão “Há riscos no manejo de resíduos de serviços de saúde? “A resposta é sim”, respondeu a engenheira.

rose2Conforme destacou a diretora da ABES-SP, antigamente, esses resíduos recebiam o nome de lixo hospitalar e por isso, há muito tempo, nos regulamentos e disciplinamento da matéria, o Brasil sempre tratou da questão do cuidado com esses materiais. “O grande problema é que era só lixo hospitalar. Os outros resíduos ficavam negligenciados em sua gestão”, lembrou. A necessidade de discutir o assunto, de forma mais abrangente, disse ela, veio na década de 1980, com o surgimento da AIDS. “Houve um grande movimento e começaram a discutir, no âmbito do Ministério da Saúde, do Meio Ambiente e nas normativas da ABNT, as regulamentações necessárias para disciplinar o tema no Brasil”.

Segundo a especialista, quando se fala de resíduos perigosos, fala-se de patógenos e resíduos tóxicos que devem ser muito bem cuidados. “Se não souber fazer o correto manejo, há riscos ocupacionais para profissionais da coleta, da saúde e catadores. E risco ambiental , resíduos jogados na rua, mal condicionados, podem contaminar a água, solo.

No caso do risco ambiental, conforme complementou Roseane, o risco é maior porque envolve toda a população.
