A Câmara Técnica de Recursos Hídricos (CTRH) da ABES-SP recebeu nesta quinta-feira, 18 de fevereiro, na sede da entidade, a bióloga Ana Paula Silveira, que ministrou a palestra “Dessalinização de águas”.
No encontro, a especialista discorreu sobre o funcionamento do processo, os desafios e a atual tecnologia utilizada pelo mundo. “(A escassez de água), se não é real hoje, é iminente por causa do crescimento da população urbana”, afirmou a coautora do livro “Dessalinização de águas”.
Para a pesquisadora, um exemplo de problema é a atual crise hídrica em São Paulo, que continua mesmo com a atual elevação dos reservatórios na época de chuvas, como ressaltou. “A gente tem de se precaver para que essa situação dos últimos dois anos não se repita. Tem de haver planejamento urbano e outras fontes de água.”
Ana Paula abordou os três tipos de processos de dessalinização: destilação térmica (com câmaras de evaporação contínuas), uso de membranas (uso de tanques em usinas) e destilação solar (com telhado de vidro que retém a água evaporada). Os dois primeiros são os mais complexos e a destilação térmica é cara por conta do uso de energia elétrica, explicou.
A maior estação de dessalinização é a Jubel Ali, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos, que obtém 821,9 mil m³ de água por dia. O menor preço da água dessalinizada no mundo sai em torno de US$ 0,45/m³ e o maior, US$ 1,48/m³. Segundo estimativa de 2007, sairia por US$ 0,8/m³ em São Paulo, com um dólar valendo R$ 4 no câmbio. A pesquisadora comparou mil galões de água dessalinizada no valor de US$ 3 à mesma quantidade em água mineral comprada em supermercados, que sai por mais de US$ 7 mil. A água dessalinizada, entretanto, ainda é mais cara em relação à água obtida por outros meios. “Mas o custo vem caindo”, afirmou.
Além do investimento, outras dificuldades à forma de obtenção de água são: as instalações dos complexos de tratamento, que podem danificar o meio ambiente pelo espaço que ocupam, e o ceticismo da opinião pública à água dessalinizada e também de reúso. “É melhor fazermos o que já ocorre naturalmente (no ciclo hidrológico) do que usar a água até acabar com os nossos mananciais”, alerta Ana Paula. Ela conta que os Estados Unidos, antes da implantação da tecnologia, fizeram campanhas de conscientização e educação ambiental.
A questão seria se o Brasil possui hoje condições de utilizar a sua faixa litorânea nesta tecnologia de obtenção de água potável, em relação às dificuldades colocadas pela pesquisadora.

Antes da palestra, a CTRH realizou uma reunião para tratar do planejamento de atividades para o ano de 2016, como o lançamento da Câmara Temática Nacional de Dessalinização e Reúso (leia mais aqui) durante a Pollutec – Feira Internacional de Tecnologia e Soluções Ambientais, em São Paulo, entre os dias 12 e 14 de abril. O coordenador da CTRH, Luis Eduardo Grisotto, falou sobre como a câmara tem auxiliado os profissionais do setor. “Palestras e eventos têm qualificado o debate sobre questões ambientais e de saneamento. A qualificação é importante, pois permite o avanço das discussões e a melhoria do conhecimento.”
