Em webinar da ABES-SP, especialistas trazem dados sobre as mudanças climáticas, discutindo temperaturas extremas, secas e inundações incomuns

Realizado no ABES Conecta, com apresentação de Luiz Pladevall, presidente da Seção, o debate teve participação da pesquisadora Thelma Krug, vice-presidente do Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas, e outros especialistas e está disponível no canal da ABES no YouTube.
 

As atuais mudanças climáticas que têm preocupado o mundo foram tema de um debate promovido nesta quarta-feira, 4 de agosto, pela Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – Seção São Paulo (ABES-SP). O webinar  “Temperaturas extremas, secas e inundações incomuns: estamos diante de uma crise climática?” contou com palestras de especialistas do Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas (IPCC), do Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (INMET), do Delta Gen e da Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo (CETESB). 

O evento teve apresentação do presidente da ABES-SP, Luiz Pladevall, e como debatedor o coordenador da Câmara Técnica de Meio Ambiente da ABES-SP, Ricardo Crepaldi. O webinar foi realizado no ABES Conecta e está disponível no canal da Associação no YouTube. 

A vice-presidente do IPCC, Thelma Krug, elogiou a relevância do tema debatido. “É sempre interessante observar que quando esses eventos extremos acontecem – sejam grandes inundações, ondas de calor, ciclones tropicais -, a pergunta sempre é a mesma”, afirma ela. “A que será que esses eventos se devem? Uma mudança global do clima ou é parte da variabilidade natural do clima? Porque esses eventos sempre correram. A gente sempre vê a mídia falando que a causa é a mudança global, mas nem sempre é assim”. 

“Há eventos naturais que sozinhos não conseguem explicar as variações que a gente tem visto ocorrendo; são mudanças muito rápidas que estão acontecendo e se não agregarmos o componente humano a gente não consegue explicar”, complementa.  Considerada uma importante pesquisadora da área de mudanças climáticas, Thelma Krug representou o Brasil por mais de quinze anos nas negociações da Convenção-Quadro das Nações Unidas sobre Mudança do Clima (UNFCCC), com foco particular em questões relacionadas ao uso da terra, mudança no uso da terra e florestas; pesquisa e observações sistemáticas; e diretrizes para inventários nacionais. 

“Minha opinião pessoal é que estamos numa crise climática,  evidenciada pela situação ambiental e social, já que a mudança do bem-estar está afetando e matando pessoas. Em todas as regiões há notícias de extremos climáticos e meteorológicos acontecendo. É uma crise e também uma emergência climática – e eu chamo também de emergência devido à necessidade de ações rápidas e profundas, tanto de adaptação quanto de mitigação para que a gente possa conseguir reduzir os riscos da mudança do clima para os sistemas humano e natural”, afirma. “Eu concluo notando que os relatórios do IPCC indicam que alguns dos benefícios mais substantivos para a saúde, o bem-estar, equidade associados à ação climática derivam de investimentos em estrutura básica, saneamento, água potável, energia limpa, dietas sadias, transporte público limpo, melhoria da qualidade do ar e a partir de soluções muitas vezes transformadoras nos diferentes setores da economia, incluindo agricultura, energia, transporte e edificações”. 

Marcelo Schneider, meteorologista no INMET trouxe dados e gráficos sobre os aumentos de temperatura e algumas discussões do IPCC – que foram posteriormente detalhadas pela Krug. Também falou sobre a variabilidade natural do clima, recentes eventos extremos significativos e o normal climatológico do INMET, um balanço do comportamento do clima  no Brasil entre 1990 e 2020, que permite um comparativo com as décadas recentes. 

As ações do estado de São Paulo estiveram em pauta com a colaboração de Josilene Ferrer, assessora da Presidência da CETESB, que apresentou o Acordo Ambiental de São Paulo. Ela explicou que o acordo tem por objeto incentivar as associações empresariais, empresas e municípios a assumirem compromissos voluntários de redução da emissão de gases do efeito estufa e apoiar ações para conter o aquecimento ambiental global. A definição de metas e cronogramas é feita pela própria empresa ou entidade e, segundo ela, o número de aderentes voluntários está em expansão.  

“A CETESP trabalha na área de mudança climática há bastante tempo”, diz Ferrer. “São Paulo abriu em 2012 uma decisão de diretoria, que está ativa desde então, para recepção de informações, uma lista de 28 segmentos industriais e da economia de São Paulo, que enviam à agência ambiental seus dados de emissão anualmente. Hoje nós temos dados e uma boa série histórica sobre as emissões dos principais segmentos da indústria de São Paulo. Também tivemos oportunidade junto com muitos especialistas – também com Telma Krug, que é nossa parceira de muitos anos na revisão do nosso inventário de uso da terra e floresta – de fazer um estudo bastante amplo para indústria e do estado, sobre perspectivas e possibilidades de redução de emissões”.

Ian Hill, presidente da Delta Gen com grande experiência em gestão de empresas destinadas à produção pecuária, grãos e cana de açúcar, trouxe a perspectiva do agronegócio no Brasil. “Sempre gosto de ver o agro como uma fábrica a céu aberto. E o maior fornecedor de insumos pra gente é o clima, pela insolação e  índices pluviométricos.  Eu sei que nós temos irrigação e etc, mas esse não chega realmente a uma fração do que é o agro no mundo”, diz.  Segundo ele, apesar das discussões sobre as mudanças climáticas, o impacto no agronegócio não foi grande, afirmando que o crescimento do setor no país é impressionante. 

Ao final das palestras, os convidados puderam responder as perguntas do público que assistiu ao evento ao vivo, com a mediação do debate.
