Em comemoração aos 10 anos do reconhecimento dos direitos humanos à água e ao saneamento às margens do Fórum Político de Alto Nível 2020, o Relator Especial das Nações Unidas (ONU) sobre os direitos humanos à água potável e ao saneamento, Léo Heller, e o Escritório do Alto Comissariado das Nações Unidas para os Direitos Humanos realizarão um seminário online sobre tema. O encontro ocorrerá no dia 7 de julho (terça-feira), às 9h (horário de Brasília), com co-patrocínio das Missões Permanentes da Alemanha e Espanha nas Nações Unidas e da ONU-Água.

O debate tem como objetivos destacar a importância e o impacto do reconhecimento, em 2010, dos direitos humanos à água e ao saneamento; fazer um balanço dos progressos de 10 anos realizados em relação à realização dos direitos humanos à água e ao saneamento; e identificar um possível roteiro para promover ainda mais os direitos humanos água e saneamento, fortalecendo a colaboração entre o Relator Especial e a comunidade ONU-Água.
Sobre os 10 anos da Declaração da ONU
O ano de 2020 marca o décimo aniversário da resolução histórica adotada pela Assembleia Geral em julho 2010, que “reconheceu o direito à água potável e sanitária potável e segura como um direito humano essencial para o pleno gozo da vida e todos os direitos humanos” (GA res 64/292). Desde então, várias resoluções posteriores adotadas pelo Conselho de Direitos Humanos e pela Assembleia Geral reafirmaram os direitos humanos à água e ao saneamento como direitos humanos fundamentais. Além disso, A Agenda 2030 para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável, adotada em 2015, incluía uma referência específica ao direito à água e ao saneamento.
Dado que 2020 também é o último ano do mandato do atual Relator Especial (Sr. Léo Heller), este é um momento oportuno para fazer um balanço do impacto do reconhecimento da água e do saneamento como direitos humanos no Setor de WASH e além, e refletir juntos como esses direitos poderiam ser melhor promovidos e integrados no esforços globais da ONU e de outros parceiros para acelerar a implementação dos ODS6 com base em direitos humanos e outros objetivos relacionados.
