Excelência: estudantes brasileiras são destaque na etapa internacional do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo 2022

Após a conquista da etapa nacional da premiação, promovida no Brasil pela ABES, por meio do JPS, Camily Pereira dos Santos e Laura Nedel Drebes foram laureadas na Suécia com Prêmio de Excelência pelo projeto “SustainPads: Absorventes Sustentáveis e acessíveis a partir de subprodutos industriais”.

Nesta terça-feira, 30 de agosto, as estudantes brasileiras Camily Pereira dos Santos (18) e Laura Nedel Drebes (19), do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) – Campus Osório, foram contempladas com o prêmio de Excelência na etapa internacional do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo 2022 (Stockholm Junior Water Prize). Elas foram destaque com o projeto “SustainPads: Absorventes Sustentáveis e acessíveis a partir de subprodutos industriais”.

As jovens representaram o Brasil após vencer a etapa nacional, promovida pela Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental (ABES), por meio do programa Jovens Profissionais do Saneamento (JPS). A etapa internacional da premiação aconteceu na capital da Suécia, com a presença da Princesa Herdeira Vitória, patrona do prêmio.

Com orientação da professora Flávia Santos Twardowski Pinto, o projeto dos SustainPads, absorventes sustentáveis e acessíveis a partir de produtos secundários industriais, aborda a pobreza menstrual, combatendo a inacessibilidade do produto de higiene menstrual, que tem consequências sociais irreversíveis e nega a muitos a oportunidade de menstruar com dignidade.  

Após o anúncio das vencedoras, Laura Nedel Drebes agradeceu emocionada, afirmando não ter palavras para expressar seus sentimentos. “Eu estou tão feliz em contribuir para a ciência mundial e representar meu país. Muito obrigada, e nós conseguimos, garotas”. 

Camilly Pereira Santos também se emocionou no discurso de agradecimento. “Estou muito feliz de estar aqui representando meu país e também falando sobre este projeto que eu amo, porque eu me descobri nesse projeto. Fazer o SustainPads mudou a minha vida, transformou a forma como vejo o mundo”.

“A experiência na Suécia tem sido fantástica. Poder vivenciar uma cultura diferente da nossa e de forma intensa deixará memórias indescritíveis em cada uma de nós. Os suecos são muito cuidadosos na forma de tratar o meio ambiente e isso pode ser facilmente observado em seu dia a dia”, afirma a professora e orientadora Flávia Santos Twardowski Pinto para a ABES. “Receber esse prêmio foi extraordinário. Foi a primeira vez que três projetos desenvolvidos por meninas ganharam as três premiações assim como a primeira vez que o Brasil ganhou esta premiação. Poder levar ao Brasil este prêmio significa que a ciência brasileira juvenil desenvolvida por meninas nas escolas tem papel fundamental na nossa sociedade e é capaz de contribuir para mostrar a cada jovem e professor que é possível unir ciência à educação para transformar o mundo”. 

Na visão dos jurados, o trabalho das jovens cientistas brasileiras tem o potencial de “ser um divisor de águas”. “Não apenas trata de questões da água, mas também resolve uma variedade de outros desafios. As estudantes demonstraram sua paixão, empatia e habilidade de pensar fora da caixa . Este projeto atende a vários ODS, aplicando os princípios de economia circular à um escondido impedimento à dignidade da mulher”, afirmou a representante do júri internacional durante a cerimônia. 

O coordenador nacional do JPS e do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo Etapa Brasil, o engenheiro ambiental Witan Silva, enfatiza que “foi muito interessante como um projeto brasileiro abriu o diálogo internacional sobre a pobreza menstrual, sobre soluções em saneamento, sobre água invisível e sobre economia circular”.

“Pelo segundo ano consecutivo, o Brasil ocupou o pódio mundial da ciência juvenil. Ganhamos o Prêmio de Excelência com o projeto das meninas de Osório”, comemorou ele após a cerimônia de premiação. “Esse projeto marcou a história e marcou a todos nós como brasileiros. É como se fosse a final de uma Copa do Mundo, é o nobel da ciência juvenil e é o nosso país sendo representado da melhor forma e da forma mais digna possível – através da ciência, do feminismo e do comprometimento de cada um. Hoje é motivo de festa, porque o nosso país reconheceu e ocupou um lugar de honra de forma internacional e única”.

O Prêmio

Criado em 1997 pelo SIWI – Instituto Internacional de Águas de Estocolmo (Stockholm International Water Institute), o Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) – Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo é promovido anualmente em duas etapas: uma nacional, realizada em cada um dos países participantes, e uma internacional, na qual ocorre a grande final. A etapa final aconteceu em Estocolmo, na Suécia, durante a Semana Mundial da Água de Estocolmo (Stockholm World Water Week), entre 29 de agosto e 2 de setembro.

No dia 25 de agosto, Laura, Camily, Flavia Twardowski e Witan Silva foram recepcionados pela CEO da Brazilcham, Elisa Sohlman, e Bárbara, também da Brazilcham.

Visita Técnica 

No dia 26 de agosto, Camily Pereira dos Santos e Laura Nedel Drebes, juntamente com a professora Flávia Twardowski,  Elisa Sohlman( CEO da Brazilcham) e Witan Silva, fizeram uma visita à Estação de Tratamento de Água Lovö, na Suécia. Trata-se de uma ETA moderna, em funcionamento desde 1904, possuindo um sistema integrado, que inclui: captação de água, filtração e distribuição, sua eficiência permite que os moradores bebam a água direto da torneira. Pela ETA Lovö participaram da atividade: Johanna Ansker – Head of department Water and Sewer
Thomas Svärd -Unit Manager. 

No mesmo dia 26, os brasileiros foram recebidos pela equipe da Brazilcham, liderada pela CEO Elisa Sohlman, e pelo CEO do Trust Anchor Group. Estavam presentes também as líderes do Comitê de Saúde Mental do Grupo Mulheres do Brasil- Núcleo de Estocolmo, Mirian Revers e Andrea Dias. A equipe da Brazilcham presente: Kellyane Moreira, Darcilene Feraru, Abranches, Daniela Capato, Isabella Uliana. Também aconteceu o Gofika (coquetel/brunch) com comidas típicas da Suécia.

Na ocasião, as vencedoras do SJWP etapa Brasil edição 2022, Camily Pereira e Laura Drebes, tiveram a oportunidade de apresentar o seu projeto e trocar experiências com todos os presentes. Estiveram presentes também Witan Silva e a professora Flávia Twardowski.

No dia 27 de agosto, houve a fixação dos posters para apresentação ao público e as finalistas puderam trocaram experiências com a comitivas da Argentina, fortalecendo o papel dos projetos da América Latina.

Em 28 de agosto, a comitiva brasileira participou da exposição StocH2Olm, na Semana Mundial da Água, organizada pela Prefeitura de Estocolmo na Strandvägskajen (Doca da Strandvägen). Uma das regiões mais nobres de Estocolmo. Neste espaço, aconteceu também a exibição dos vídeos e entrevistas dos finalistas. Na oportunidade, Laura e Camily apresentaram o projeto premiado na etapa Brasil da premiação e conheceram diversos outros trabalhos de países como do Equador, Argentina, Israel e Hungria, em uma interação única para as jovens cientistas.

Ainda no dia 28,  aconteceu o evento de abertura da etapa internacional do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo 2022, com as boas-vindas a Estocolmo no hotel Scandic Klara, inaugurando as atividades do Prêmio SJWP na Semana Mundial da Água 2022.

O evento contou com a presença do presidente do SIWI, de todos os organizadores, finalistas e demais envolvidos.


Nesta edição, concorreram 58 estudantes vindos de 36 países! Durante o encontro, os finalistas se apresentaram brevemente para se conhecerem. Após o evento, os estudantes finalistas participaram de um jantar, enquanto os organizadores nacionais se reuniram.

Ao final, os organizadores da América Latina reunidos registraram uma foto com a organizadora mundial do prêmio, a Senhora Ania.

No domingo, 29 de agosto, na Norra Latin, aconteceu a apresentação oficial dos trabalhos para os jurados.
