IPCC: novo relatório alerta que ações urgentes são necessárias para enfrentar os riscos das mudanças climáticas

A ONU lançou na segunda-feira, 28 de fevereiro, o relatório do Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas (IPCC). O estudo mostra que “o colapso do ecossistema, a extinção de espécies, ondas de calor fatais e enchentes estão entre os perigos inevitáveis” que o mundo enfrentará nos próximos 20 anos devido ao aquecimento global.  

Como ressalta o presidente do IPCC, Hoesung Lee, o relatório faz um alerta sobre “as consequências da falta de ação”, mostrando como a mudança climática já está afetando bilhões de vidas pelo mundo. Este é o segundo de uma série de três documentos do tipo produzidos pelos cientistas da ONU especializados em clima. 

O relatório foi lançado cerca de 100 dias depois da COP26, quando os líderes mundiais reuniram-se em Glasgow, na Escócia, e concordaram em aumentar as ações para limitar o aquecimento global a 1.5° Celsius e assim, evitar os piores impactos da mudança climática.  

O secretário-geral da ONU declarou que o novo relatório do IPCC traz evidências “nunca vistas”, revelando como as pessoas e o planeta estão sendo derrotados pela mudança climática”. 

“O relatório é um atlas do sofrimento humano e uma prova do fracasso da liderança sobre o clima. Quase metade da humanidade está vivendo na zona de perigo e “muitos ecossistemas já estão agora num ponto sem retorno”, frisa Hoesung Lee.
