Léo Heller participa de debate online sobre saneamento como direito humano, dia 17 de março

O relator da ONU sobre água e saneamento, Léo Heller, pesquisador da Fiocruz Minas Gerais e associado ABES, e Guilherme Franco Netto, especialista em Saúde, Ambiente e Sustentabilidade, da Vice-Presidência  de Ambiente, Atenção e Promoção da Saúde da Fiocruz, participarão, no dia 17 de março, a partir das 14h, do debate online da série Futuros do Brasil, do Centro de Estudos Estratégicos da Fiocruz.

Em um país ameaçado pelo vírus zika, colocar um exército na rua para perseguir e matar o Aedes aegypti de nada adianta se não for atacado um grave problema de saúde pública: a falta de saneamento básico garantido a toda a população. Esse cenário, no entanto, ainda está longe de ser alcançado em curto prazo. As causas, bem como os caminhos para que se chegue lá serão abordados neste evento online.

Em abril de 2015, durante a oficina sobre saneamento realizada pelo CEE-Fiocruz, Leo Heller já havia observado que as políticas públicas de saneamento do Brasil estão ainda “engatinhando”, são resistentes a mudanças, voltam-se a interesses específicos e contêm diversos “pontos de estrangulamento”, como planejamento deficiente, mau uso dos recursos e dificuldade de dialogar com a sociedade e outras áreas, embora se trate de uma política intersetorial. Leo lembrou, ainda, a necessidade de se olhar de forma mais cuidadosa para as populações vulneráveis e invisíveis.

A epidemia de zika está relacionada a esse cenário, como apontará Guilherme Franco Netto. Ele abordará no debate as relações entre o saneamento e a atual epidemia, analisando o quanto a ausência de ambientes adequadamente saudáveis contribuem para a tendência de disseminação do vírus entre a população.
