A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES lamenta profundamente o falecimento do engenheiro e professor Márcio Benedito Baptista, membro da Seção MG, nesta terça-feira, 23 de junho.

Atuação no saneamento

O engenheiro teve intensa atuação nas temáticas recursos hídricos, hidrologia urbana, hidráulica e restauração fluvial. Foi um importante apoiador das ações da ABES em prol do saneamento e ministrou diversos cursos de formação profissional na entidade.

Iniciou sua trajetória como professor titular do Departamento de Engenharia Hidráulica e Recursos Hídricos da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, em 1991, onde permaneceu com professor voluntário, mesmo após sua aposentadoria, em 2019.

Atuou como professor titular, chefe de departamento, coordenador da pós graduação, pró-reitor de administração, bolsista de produtividade do CNPQ, autor de livros de reconhecida importância junto à comunidade acadêmica, orientador de inúmeros trabalhos de excelência na graduação, mestrado e doutorado.

Publicou conceituados livros como: Técnicas Compensatórias em Drenagem Urbana; Restauração de sistemas fluviais; Fundamentos de Engenharia Hidráulica; Hidráulica Aplicada, dentre outros.

Compôs inúmeras bancas avaliativas e comissões julgadoras de trabalhos técnicos e teses de doutorado. Deu também sua contribuição em importantes fóruns de discussão atuando como conselheiro titular do Conselho Municipal de Saneamento de BH (COMUSA), de 2016 a 2018; membro do Conselho Municipal de Mudanças Climáticas e Ecoeficiência da Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte, de 2017 a 2019; e conselheiro titular do Conselho Estadual de Política Ambiental de Minas Gerais (COPAM).

Foi diretor da Associação Brasileira de Recursos Hídricos (ABRH); membro da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental (ABES), e da International Association for Hydraulic Research (IAHR); Colaborador da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG); membro do corpo editorial da Revista Brasileira de Recursos Hídricos; revisor de periódico da Revista de Gestão de Águas da América Latina; e da Revista Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental;

Ao longo de sua carreira, desempenhou relevante trabalho como consultor nas áreas de Hidrologia, Hidráulica e Recursos Hídricos junto a prefeituras, órgãos públicos, empresas particulares e ministérios, atuando em estudos e projetos de engenharia e planos diretores de saneamento básico e controle de inundações.

O falecimento do professor Márcio é uma grande perda para seus familiares, amigos, colegas, alunos e para toda área de recursos hídricos no Brasil. A ABES expressa os mais profundos sentimentos aos familiares do engenheiro, que muito contribuiu para o desenvolvimento do setor.
