O plenário do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) decidiu nesta quinta-feira (2), por 7 votos a 3, rejeitar quatro ações que questionaram dispositivos do novo marco legal do saneamento básico. Com isso, a lei permanece em vigor sem alterações.
As ações questionam que os dispositivos podem criar um monopólio do setor privado nos serviços de fornecimento de água e esgotamento sanitário, em prejuízo da universalização do acesso e do menor preço de tarifas.
A lei foi sancionada em julho de 2020 pelo presidente Jair Bolsonaro com 11 vetos ao texto original.
O novo marco legal definiu que os contratos atuais poderão ser renovados por mais 30 anos, desde que uma negociação seja formalizada até março de 2022 e haja metas para universalização dos serviços de água e esgoto.
