Segundo dados do Atlas do Diabetes da Federação Internacional do Diabetes (IDF), cerca de 16,8 milhões de adultos têm diabetes no Brasil. Todas essas pessoas precisam seguir uma rotina de cuidado, tendo a aplicação de insulina como principal forma de tratamento. Entretanto, não há ainda diretrizes bem definidas quanto ao descarte adequado de agulhas, seringas e outros materiais perfurocortantes utilizados em domicílio.
Pensando em orientar a população e contribuir para destinação correta destes dispositivos, surgiu a campanha “Descarte Amigo – Agulha no Lixo é um Perigo”, iniciativa da Associação SEMPR Amigos e que conta com apoio da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES. O objetivo é alertar a sociedade quanto aos riscos associados ao manejo inadequado dos materiais perfurocortantes, comuns no tratamento do diabetes e outras patologias.
“Estudos comprovam que a orientação adequada da população está associada à redução significativa nas taxas de descarte incorreto, o que é fundamental para garantir a segurança das pessoas que possam vir a ter contato com esses resíduos, seja durante o armazenamento, coleta, transporte ou tratamento do material”, expõe Daniele Zaninelli, presidente da Associação SEMPR Amigos.
Ela explica que a ausência de orientações claras sobre o manejo de agulhas e seringas geradas fora do ambiente hospitalar tem resultado no despejo incorreto destes materiais por parte da população.
“É muito comum que esses resíduos sejam descartados no lixo comum, no lixo reciclável e até no vaso sanitário, o que pode trazer danos ao meio ambiente e causar ferimentos com risco de transmissão de infecções a quem entra em contato com o lixo dentro de casa ou fora dela”, alerta Daniele.
O recomendado é que os utensílios utilizados no tratamento do diabetes sejam colocados logo após o uso em recipientes resistentes e com boa vedação, conforme explica a enfermeira Marcia Camargo de Oliveira, membro da Sociedade Brasileira de Diabetes (SBD).
“Os principais cuidados que as pessoas devem ter na hora de descartar estes dispositivos é colocá-los em um coletor apropriado para perfurocortantes e contaminantes, manter o coletor em local de fácil acesso, porém seguro e, quando preenchido, o recipiente deve ser transportado com segurança e entregue na Unidade Básica de Saúde mais próxima para ter o tratamento e destino correto”, orienta Marcia.
A enfermeira esclarece que seringas, agulhas para canetas, canetas descartáveis, lancetas, tiras e os insumos usados na bomba de infusão de insulina (cateter, cânula e agulha guia) gerados no domicílio devem ser descartados em coletores específicos para perfurocortantes.

Elaboração de Norma Técnica
Recentemente, foi criado um grupo técnico na Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) para elaboração de diretrizes especificas em relação ao tema. A proposta da campanha “Descarte Amigo”, inclusive, foi apresentada em reunião da Comissão de Estudo Especial de Resíduos de Serviços de Saúde (ABNT/CEE–129). Agora, são aguardadas as análises e discussões da comissão para que a pauta se transforme em um Projeto de Norma.
“As recomendações oficiais geradas pelo documento deverão contribuir para a implementação efetiva dos cuidados necessários para reduzir os riscos de contaminação no meio ambiente e de ferimentos e transmissões de infecções na comunidade”, avalia a presidente da Associação SEMPR Amigos.
Após a discussão da comissão, o projeto será submetido à Consulta Nacional, dando oportunidade a qualquer pessoa ou entidade de enviar sugestões, de modo que, ao fim da consulta e consolidação das observações, o projeto possa ser publicado como Documento Técnico ABNT.
“A elaboração e implantação da Norma Técnica pela ABNT irá somar e solucionar muitos dos problemas existentes hoje. Resultará em maior segurança para o manejo eficiente dos resíduos gerados no domicílio, visando a proteção das pessoas, animais e a preservação da saúde pública, dos recursos naturais e do meio ambiente”, complementa a enfermeira Marcia Oliveira.
