Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente: ONU destaca esforços na América Latina na luta contra poluição por plásticos

A cada ano, descartamos nos oceanos cerca de 13 milhões de toneladas de plástico, incluindo micropartículas que entram na cadeia alimentar, e afetam a saúde de cada ser vivo do planeta.

Projeções atuais mostram que a produção global de plásticos irá aumentar fortemente nas próximas décadas: deve atingir desconcertantes 619 milhões de toneladas até 2030.

Em artigo para o Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente, o diretor-executivo da ONU Meio Ambiente, Erik Solheim, afirma que a América Latina e o Caribe estão tomando passos ousados na luta contra a poluição por plásticos. Segundo ele, vários países da região estão aprovando leis e políticas fortes para promover uma nova economia do plástico e proteger os preciosos recursos naturais.
