Associado da ABES Marcos Von Sperling conquista o prêmio “IWA Global Water”

Doutor em Engenharia Ambiental, pesquisador é o primeiro brasileiro a receber premiação, que reconhece profissionais pela contribuição significativa no setor de água.

O engenheiro Marcos Von Sperling, membro da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES, venceu o “IWA Global Water Awards 2021” (Prêmio Global de Água da IWA), concedido pela Associação Internacional de Água (IWA, na sigla em inglês), maior rede internacional de profissionais de água, com membros em mais de 130 países.

O anúncio foi feito pelo presidente da IWA, Tom Mollenkopf, durante abertura do Congresso Mundial da Água, realizado de forma virtual, nesta segunda-feira, 24 de maio.

Sperling tornou-se o primeiro brasileiro a conquistar a premiação, realizada bienalmente desde 2004, no qual reconhece profissionais que, por meio de liderança e prática inovadoras, deram contribuição significativa no setor de água e estão impulsionando a transformação no mundo.

“Eu e diversos colegas que atuam no setor de saneamento, com muita dedicação e paixão, queremos trazer de fato uma contribuição para o setor. Então, quando há o reconhecimento externo de uma das maiores entidades relacionadas à água no mundo, de que este esforço gerou produtos palpáveis e trouxeram contribuições, é uma sensação muito gratificante, fiquei muito feliz”, celebra Sperling.

Marcos Von Sperling é engenheiro civil e doutor em Engenharia Ambiental pelo Imperial College de Londres. Atua há mais de 40 anos na área de tratamento de esgotos, tendo diversos livros sobre a área publicados em quatro idiomas. É membro honorário internacional da American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, sediada nos Estados Unidos, integrante da Associação Internacional de Água (IWA, na sigla em inglês) e professor titular do Departamento de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG).

Associado há mais de 40 anos da ABES, o pesquisador já fez parte do Conselho Diretor da ABES, da coordenadoria do Comitê de Meio Ambiente e Ecologia da ABES, e, atualmente, é membro da ABES Seção Minas Gerais (ABES-MG).

Sperling comenta a emoção ao ser homenageado pela premiação: “Senti que vale a pena fazer coisas boas em prol do saneamento, da saúde pública e da qualidade de vida das pessoas, área de atuação minha e da ABES”, finaliza.
