ABES-SP alerta para o uso racional da água e o aumento na geração de resíduos nas cidades litorâneas no feriado de Carnaval

Medidas simples no dia a dia como tomar banhos curtos, não lavar calçadas e carros são exemplos de economia no consumo diário que fazem grande diferença na gestão hídrica dos municípios. A destinação adequada do resíduo garante a gestão adequada e evita o acúmulo de lixo em locais impróprios, inclusive nas praias. 

 
Apesar do Carnaval ter sido cancelado em muitas cidades, a população deverá aproveitar o feriado prolongado para viajar. A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – Seção São Paulo – ABES-SP alerta para o significativo aumento nos consumos de água e de produção de resíduos decorrentes do crescimento do fluxo de pessoas em direção ao litoral paulista neste período.
 
A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental (ABES), entidade com mais de meio século de atuação pelo saneamento, meio ambiente e recursos hídricos no Brasil, alerta para o significativo aumento nos consumos de água e de produção de resíduos decorrentes do crescimento do fluxo de pessoas em direção ao litoral paulista no feriado de Carnaval.
 
“Os sistemas de distribuição de água, que atendem adequadamente às pessoas durante todo o ano, podem ficar sobrecarregados se as pessoas não fizerem o uso racional da água. Medidas simples no dia a dia podem garantir o uso consciente da água: tomar banhos curtos, não lavar calçadas e carros, fechar a torneira ao lavar a louça e ao escovar os dentes são exemplos de economia no consumo diário que fazem grande diferença na gestão hídrica dos municípios, em especial em dias de maior demanda.”, explica Olivia Pompeu de Mendonça Coelho, presidente da Subseção Litoral da ABES – SP.
 
De acordo com a especialista, somente na Baixada Santista, o volume médio de água produzido no ano é de 24 milhões de m³ ao ano para atender cerca de 560 mil ligações de água. Medidas simples no dia a dia podem garantir o uso consciente da água: tomar banhos curtos, não lavar calçadas e carros, fechar a torneira ao lavar a louça e ao escovar os dentes são exemplos de economia no consumo diário que fazem grande diferença na gestão hídrica dos municípios, em especial em dias de maior demanda.
 
“A atenção à obrigatoriedade da caixa d’água também é de extrema importância, uma vez que previne falta d’água durante eventual variação na pressão, seja no período de maior consumo ou para manutenções por parte da concessionária. A reserva interna dos domicílios deve ser capaz de suprir o consumo dos ocupantes por, ao menos, 24 horas independente do sistema público de abastecimento’, salienta a engenheira.
 
“O aumento na geração de lixo nesta época do ano também traz grande impacto negativo às cidades litorâneas. A destinação adequada do resíduo garante a gestão adequada do mesmo e evita o acúmulo em locais impróprios – que podem propagar doenças – e o encaminhamento dos resíduos nos sistemas de drenagem de águas pluviais, uma vez que latinhas, garrafas e adereços característicos deste feriado acabam por desaguar nas praias”, orienta a especialista .
 
Olivia ressalta ainda que aliado ao comportamento consciente por parte da população, é igualmente importante a adoção de políticas públicas diferenciadas para essa época do ano, por meio do reforço de equipes de manutenção e fiscalização, bem como planos de contingenciamento: “A ABES – Subseção Litoral apoia e incentiva o comportamento sustentável através da preservação ambiental e desenvolvimento social. É dever de todos o consumo consciente e responsável. Faça a sua parte”.
