Aluno do Colégio São José, na cidade de Itajaí/SC, Gabriel Fernandes Ferreira Mello, de 16 anos, concorrerá à etapa internacional da premiação, que será realizada online, em 24 de agosto, diretamente de Estocolmo, na Suécia.
Celebrando o Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente, neste sábado, 5 de junho, a Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES, por meio do programa Jovens Profissionais do Saneamento – JPS, realizou online a final da etapa brasileira do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo (Stockholm Junior Water Prize – SJWP). O grande vencedor da competição foi Gabriel Fernandes Mello, de 16 anos.
Aluno do 2º ano do ensino médio do Colégio São José, na cidade de Itajaí, em Santa Catarina, ele conquistou os jurados com projeto “Desenvolvimento de um mecanismo de retenção de microplásticos em Estações de Tratamento de Água (ETAs)”. O trabalho foi orientado por Fernanda Poleza, professora de Ciências, Biologia e Química.
“O trabalho pode contribuir para o consumidor final receber uma água de qualidade, além de ser uma inovação, pois não existem mecanismos como este”, afirmou o estudante em entrevista ao portal ABES Notícias, publicada em 3 de junho (leia aqui). Agora, Gabriel vai disputar a final internacional da premiação, que ocorrerá no formato virtual, no dia 24 de agosto, durante a Semana Mundial da Água de Estocolmo, na Suécia.
“Estou muito feliz!”, celebrou Gabriel, ao ser anunciado vencedor. “Os outros finalistas apresentaram trabalhos incríveis também. Agradeço a todos. Agradeço à comissão de organização e à mentoria. Convidados da abertura
A cerimônia virtual foi realizada por meio do canal da ABES no YouTube, com apresentação de Witan Silva, coordenador nacional do JPS. Integraram a mesa de abertura: Alceu Guérios Bittencourt, presidente nacional da ABES, Paula Márcia Furukawa, superintendente de Gestão de Meio Ambiente da Sabesp, Peter Johansson, vice-cônsul da Suécia em São Paulo, Elisa Sohlman, CEO da BrazilChamp, e Luiza Helena Trajano, presidente do Grupo Mulheres do Brasil.
“Para a ABES, é um orgulho apoiar mais uma vez o Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo”, afirmou Alceu Bittencourt em seu discurso, destacando o trabalho dos Jovens Profissionais do Saneamento da entidade (JPS) na organização das edições da premiação no Brasil, nos últimos anos.
“Com isso, fazemos uma cadeia de profissionais mais experientes com os mais jovens e os estudantes que participam do prêmio, estimulando questões importantes, como os usos da água, a gestão e preservação dos recursos hídricos e demais recursos naturais, o direito de todos ao acesso a uma moradia digna, livre de enchentes e inundações, e direito de acesso ao abastecimento de água e esgotamento sanitário de qualidade para todos”, enfatizou Alceu. “São questões relevantes que o prêmio ajuda a discutir e difundir e assim atrair jovens e estudantes para no futuro virem ser profissionais conosco, participantes deste importante setor”, concluiu o presidente nacional da ABES.
As embaixadoras da edição 2021 do prêmio Rayssa Jacob (coordenadora do JPS-RJ), Aline Vian de Barba e Anna Luísa Bezerra também participaram da cerimônia apresentando os jurados os finalistas da edição.
Trabalhos reconhecidos
O segundo lugar foi para Ariel Rodrigues Sousa dos Santos e Victor Gustavo Diniz Silva, autores do projeto “Avaliação do uso de fibra vegetal oleofílica na coleta de óleo derramado em ambientes aquáticos”. As outras estudantes que participaram da final foram Bianca Cavalcanti do Nascimento e Maria Clara Miranda de Sousa, com o trabalho “A biodegradação do estradiol e sua importância para a conservação do ecossistema”, e Sibelle Cristine Alves Prates Silva e Yasmim Corrêa de Araujo, com o projeto “Desenvolvimento de um compósito de quitosana reticulada e fibra da casca da banana maça para remoção de lauril etér sulfato de sódio em efluentes”.

Foram jurados da etapa Brasil do Prêmio Jovem da Água de Estocolmo 2021: Mônica Monteiro, diretora Executiva da Band; Paulo Saldiva, médico e professor da Faculdade de Medicina da USP; Mônica Porto, professora Sênior do Departamento de Engenharia Hidráulica e Ambiental da POLI/USP e Assessora da presidência da Sabesp; Manuella Curti de Souza, CEO do Grupo Europa Purificadores, Mario Ramacciotti, diretor da Xylem Brasil; Thomas Ribeiro de Aquino Ficarelli, Geógrafo, membro do JPS; e Edgard Gouveia Jr., empreendedor social e idealizador do Projeto Primavera X.
Homenagem
A cantora Elza Soares, que interpreta a música “Lata D’água”, composta por Candeias, foi homenageada durante o evento. Na ocasião, a canção foi interpretada pela cantora e compositora Chelle.
