Mulheres no saneamento

Neste Dia Internacional da Mulher, publicamos reportagem divulgada na Revista Bio sobre a presença feminina no último 28º Congresso da ABES, que foi promovido no Rio de Janeiro em 2015. A participação feminina reflete a atuação das mulheres, cada vez mais intensa, no setor do saneamento.

A presença feminina é cada vez mais forte nas diversas áreas da sociedade. O espaço que elas vêm ocupando na engenharia, ao longo do tempo, é exemplo disso. Durante o 28º Congresso Brasileiro de Engenharia Sanitária Ambiental, promovido pela ABES, entre os dias 4 e 8 de outubro de 2015, no Rio de Janeiro, essa participação também foi marcante, como constatou a reportagem da ABES para a revista Bio.  Elas somaram 38% do total de participantes e foram protagonistas de diversos painéis e discussões sobre crise hídrica, mudanças climáticas e outros importantes temas do saneamento e meio ambiente no Brasil. Vale destacar, ainda, que os jovens com idade entre 18 e 35 anos totalizaram cerca de 60% no evento.

O 2º Congresso Brasileiro de Engenharia Sanitária, realizado em 1963, em Porto Alegre, já contava com a participação feminina na sua coordenação: a  eng.ª Alpha da Rosa Teixeira, que participou da coordenação e da criação da ABES, como explica  Maria Lucia Coelho Silva, articuladora das Câmaras Temáticas da ABES. “E como toda a história, que sempre apresenta  suas ambiguidades, a nossa associação, a ABES, viu e acompanhou as mudanças culturais, comportamentais e tecnológicas, desde a emergência dos movimentos sociais, juvenis, feministas e as inovações nos relacionamentos individuais e coletivos, até os avanços científicos e técnicos evoluindo, mudando, crescendo e amadurecendo. Em 2015, no 28º Congresso de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental, a presença da mulher mais uma vez veio afirmar o valor da ABES em um setor com tantos compromissos sociais quanto é o do saneamento ambiental.”

Para Monica Porto, secretária adjunta da Secretaria de Saneamento e Recursos Hídricos do Estado de São Paulo e membro do conselho consultivo da ABES-SP, que apresentou palestra sobre segurança hídrica global em painel do congresso, a atuação de mulheres e homens enriquece o setor. “A sociedade é diversa, o mais importante é que não haja barreiras.”

Confira, nos depoimentos a seguir, uma reflexão sobre o papel da mulher neste cenário tanto sob o ponto de vista de engenheiras da entidade, que há anos se dedicam ao setor, como de jovens profissionais e estudantes da Engenharia, que fizeram parte do 28º CBESA.

“Sou engenheira. Então isso é meu dia-a-dia desde que tenho 18 anos. Desde os 18 anos em vivo em minoria. E veja um ponto importante nessa questão da mulher: eu não tenho dúvida que essa diversidade traz riqueza, é como o ecossistema. Quer dizer, as teias alimentares dão mais sustentabilidade para o sistema, a diversidade dá uma sustentabilidade maior para o ecossistema e na questão da participação de mulheres eu acho a mesma coisa. Quando a gente fala do acesso das mulheres, eu não vejo nada de errado em ter poucas mulheres em Engenharia Mecânica, também há poucos homens na área de Enfermagem. Por que damos um carrinho para o menino e uma boneca para a menina? Não importa, o que eu acho muito importante é a gente ter uma sociedade em que não haja barreiras. Não acho que, obrigatoriamente, temos que ter meio a meio em tudo. A sociedade é diversa, o mais importante é que não haja barreiras. Então, se há uma engenheira mecânica, ela vai poder exercer sua profissão sem preconceito do mesmo jeito que se tiver um homem na faculdade de Enfermagem, ele vai fazer sua carreira sem preconceito. Eu fiz minha carreira, quando estava na Escola de Engenharia, as mulheres eram cerca de 10% da turma. Hoje dou aula na área de Engenharia Civil e as meninas são mais ou menos 30% da turma. Fiz minha carreira profissional, fiz minha carreira acadêmica, sou professora titular de uma escola de Engenharia. Na área de Engenharia Civil fui a primeira professora titular dessa escola. Na Escola Politécnica em fui a quinta professora titular. Honestamente posso dizer que não encontrei barreiras quando decidi fazer Engenharia, minha família foi muito aberta, não tinha essa estória de que “menina não fazia engenharia”. “Vejo o papel da mulher vivenciando significativa transformação do ponto de vista político e cultural e principalmente econômico. Na área do saneamento básico, o avanço da escolaridade feminina proporcionou ampliação das alternativas de inserção no mercado de trabalho e o aumento das possibilidades de ascensão profissional com a ocupação de cargos de chefia, mesmo com a persistente disparidade em termos salariais. O olhar apurado e sensível das mulheres vem trazendo soluções de saneamento básico mais humanitárias, já que reconhecem a necessidade da saúde (água potável, esgotamento sanitário, resíduos sólidos e drenagem urbana), alimentação e equilíbrio ambiental dos ecossistemas. Na ABES-BA, sou a terceira mulher presidente desde a sua criação (1966), além da vice-presidente Talita Câmara, Tesoureira Itaiara Sá e Diretora Juliana Bezerra. No 28º CBESA, a participação da mulher foi bastante efetiva em diversos painéis e apresentações de trabalhos técnicos e no JPS com diversas representações; é um rompimento de valores que as discriminam em carreiras tidas como predominantemente masculinas. Desta forma, por mais que a trajetória das mulheres na área tecnológica seja repleta de desafios, é visível que elas vêm adentrando com competência neste meio.”  Vanessa Britto S. “A presença feminina na área de saneamento é muito importante. Lá no inicio a presença da mulher na Engenharia não era muito comum e isso vem se expandindo e trazendo uma visão diferente. Em uma área que era prioritariamente masculina, a mulher tem uma visão complementar, mais cuidadora, um olhar, muitas vezes, mais sensibilizado perante as dificuldades, principalmente nessa época de crise hídrica. É um trabalho árduo, mas que sempre procuramos conciliar. Tem a visão masculina que sempre pode visar mais o trabalho e nós, mulheres, buscamos conciliar esse trabalho com outras prioridades também. Se formos buscar em Alagoas, no nordeste, por exemplo, a mulher tem um papel muito importante no saneamento: é ela que arruma a casa, e aí vemos a questão do esgotamento sanitário, dos resíduos sólidos. E se olharmos lá no sertão, veremos que é ela que vai buscar a água todos os dias, para o banho, para alimentação, entre outros. Então, ela sente lá na ponta essas dificuldades que se apresentam nessa crise hídrica que o Brasil, que é uma nação enorme, está enfrentando, principalmente no sudeste, algo ninguém imaginava, com o clima variando de norte a sul.”

Ligia Cortez, jornalista da Companhia de Águas e Esgotos do Rio Grande do Norte (CAERN) no Dia Internacional da Mulher, em 2012, entre outras informações escreveu como Curiosidade, em seu artigo: “O perfil da mulher dinâmica, que tem dupla jornada, era difundido centenas de anos antes de Cristo. Na Bíblia, Antigo Testamento, no livro de Provérbios (que revela a sabedoria dos antigos mestres israelitas sobre o que as pessoas devem fazer em diversas situações sociais e familiares) apresenta um perfil da mulher ideal e compara a um tesouro. No capítulo 31, a mãe do Rei Lemuel apresenta ao filho algumas das principais virtudes a serem observadas na escolha da esposa, lembrando que “a formosura é uma ilusão e a beleza acaba…”. Ressalta o comportamento da mulher que trabalha em casa e fora de casa: “De lugares distantes ela traz comida para casa… Ela se levanta de madrugada para preparar alimento para a família e dar ordens às empregadas. Examina e compra uma propriedade com dinheiro que ganhou e faz nela uma plantação de uvas (é empreendedora). É esforçada, forte e trabalhadora. Conhece o valor de tudo o que faz e trabalha até a noite (vs. 14 a 18)”.

Nunca esqueci isso e concordo com as sábias palavras daquela mãe. E quando sou solicitada a dar depoimento sobre “a participação das mulheres no 28º CBESA, bem como a participação delas no saneamento” que mais posso dizer?

Esse espaço conquistado pela mulher vem de longas datas. E nunca foi para competir e sim para contribuir e multiplicar os resultados em tudo que participa. Sou suspeita de falar das inúmeras atitudes e ações de que somos capazes. (Nada modesta, hein!?). Só sei que as mulheres sempre terão uma participação importantíssima naquilo a que se propõem a realizar. E no 28º CBESA e no Saneamento não poderia ser diferente. Sempre haverá aquele olhar mais atento, mais cuidadoso, mais organizado, enfim o olhar maravilhoso da mulher e sua participação ativa e exitosa! Maria Geny Formiga de Farias, presidente da ABES Seção Rio Grande do Norte Diretora de Empreendimentos da CAERN

“A preocupação e a busca de soluções para a questão ambiental, econômica e social tem se tornado cada vez mais destacada nas agendas dos gestores em escala mundial, haja vista que os problemas de poluição, saúde, educação, degradação ambiental, pobreza, ausência de saneamento estão presentes em todas as sociedades.

No processo de discussões e procura de alternativas para estes problemas a mulher é compreendida pelos organismos internacionais como sujeito sine qua non. Nesta conjuntura a ONU – Organização das Nações Unidas – destaca a importância da mulher no manejo dos recursos naturais e na preservação ambiental, colocando-a como promotora de ações locais, regionais e até globais.

Colocando a lente na Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental observa-se a importância e crescimento da inserção da mulher, de maneira ativa e participativa. Assumindo função de gestão e contribuindo para as múltiplas soluções e tecnologias. Este cenário é comprovado por várias pesquisas, bem como no destaque da presença feminina em eventos com foco nesta área da engenharia, participando como congressistas e palestrantes, como ocorreu no 28º Congresso Brasileiro de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – CBESA, promovido pela Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES, realizado no período de 04 a 08 de outubro de 2015, no Rio de Janeiro.

Diante do exposto, pode-se afirmar que cada vez mais a mulher tem assumido posição de destaque nas principais arenas de discussões políticas, técnicas, econômicas, sociais e ambientais.” Bárbara Virginia Pereira Cavalcanti, presidente ABES Seção Pernambuco

“A minha sala tem muito mais mulheres do que homens e é uma tendência agora. É verdade que, dentre os profissionais que estão no ramo há mais tempo, parece que vemos mais homens mesmo, mas a geração de hoje é outra. É a primeira vez que venho ao Congresso e estou achando tudo maravilhoso, porque nunca estive tão próxima de profissionais tão renomados, conhecidos, autores de livros importantes e eu acho interessante ver a visão deles e estou tendo uma boa noção da prática. “O congresso tem sido uma experiência que eu nunca tinha vivenciado. Eu vim aqui para apresentar dois trabalhos, acho que vai ser uma grande experiência tanto profissional como pessoal.porque eu fui descobrindo e me interessando pela parte de saneamento no decorrer do curso, então que isso aqui vai ser fundamental para fechar esse ciclo de descoberta na minha vida.

Na minha própria família, quando falei que iria fazer Engenharia, meu pai foi o primeiro a falar assim “não, isso é profissão de homem, vai ser professora”. Mas ai eu bati o pé, quis e acho que hoje existe ainda um certo preconceito. Não é mais uma coisa geral, mas eu, por exemplo, vim de uma cidade pequena e lá ainda tem esse tipo de preconceito.
