Saneamento é saúde!!!
O setor de saneamento foi pego de surpresa com a declaração do Presidente da República Jair Bolsonaro, que “o brasileiro não pega nada, pula no esgoto e não fica doente”.
A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES vem a público lamentar o entendimento da autoridade máxima do país.
O Brasil ainda possui o lamentável número de 35 milhões de brasileiros sem acesso aos sistemas de abastecimentos públicos. A falta de esgotos tratados afeta outros 100 milhões e parte deste esgoto corre a céu aberto nas ruas das periferias, porém, o contato com ele pode sim gerar doenças.
Estes números refletem-se diretamente na saúde da população. O Ranking ABES da Universalização do Saneamento traz uma correlação entre a pontuação total alcançada pelos municípios e a taxa de internação por doenças relacionadas ao saneamento ambiental inadequado, em função da intrínseca relação entre saneamento e saúde, demonstrando que, quanto maior a cobertura dos serviços de saneamento, menor a incidência de casos de doenças relacionadas à falta deles.
Neste momento de pandemia, em que autoridades, cientistas, profissionais da saúde e todo o planeta estão buscando soluções para conter o vírus e minimizar um desastre de enormes proporções, que pode ceifar milhões de vidas e colocar o Brasil e o mundo em recessão, tem-se a oportunidade de rever o modo de vida que impacta o meio ambiente e as pessoas.
Repensar e priorizar as políticas de Estado surgem neste instante como uma destas oportunidades. Acima de tudo e urgentemente, deve-se conscientizar a sociedade desde sobre o quão crucial é um hábito simples, como lavar as mãos, à importância de cobrar do Poder Público, em todas as instâncias, que priorize as políticas públicas que garantam saneamento e saúde para todos.
Além disso, na era das redes sociais, notícias e falsas notícias espalham-se com velocidade e confundem o público. Por isso, espera-se de nossas lideranças que não só trabalhem para que essas políticas sejam criadas e implementadas, como sejam para a nação um exemplo a ser seguido, levando as mensagens necessárias neste momento de crise e de dor para muitas pessoas.
A ABES, que há 53 anos trabalha pelo saneamento, pela saúde e pela qualidade de vida das pessoas, acredita na força das ações e no poder de mensagens dos líderes, formadores de opinião e profissionais da saúde para melhoria das condições de vida de toda população.
