Saneamento é saúde!!!

O setor de saneamento foi pego de surpresa com a declaração do Presidente da República Jair Bolsonaro, que “o brasileiro não pega nada, pula no esgoto e não fica doente”.

A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES vem a público lamentar o entendimento da autoridade máxima do país.

O Brasil ainda possui o lamentável número de 35 milhões de brasileiros sem acesso aos sistemas de abastecimentos públicos. A falta de esgotos tratados afeta outros 100 milhões e parte deste esgoto corre a céu aberto nas ruas das periferias, porém, o contato com ele pode sim gerar doenças.

Estes números refletem-se diretamente na saúde da população. O Ranking ABES da Universalização do Saneamento traz uma correlação entre a pontuação total alcançada pelos municípios e a taxa de internação por doenças relacionadas ao saneamento ambiental inadequado, em função da intrínseca relação entre saneamento e saúde, demonstrando que, quanto maior a cobertura dos serviços de saneamento, menor a incidência de casos de doenças relacionadas à falta deles.

Neste momento de pandemia, em que autoridades, cientistas, profissionais da saúde e todo o planeta estão buscando soluções para conter o vírus e minimizar um desastre de enormes proporções, que pode ceifar milhões de vidas e colocar o Brasil e o mundo em recessão, tem-se a oportunidade de rever o modo de vida que impacta o meio ambiente e as pessoas.
