A Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental – ABES lançou em fevereiro a UNIABES. Voltada à educação, à promoção do conhecimento para o setor de Saneamento Ambiental no Brasil, à capacitação e à qualificação profissional, a UNIABES disponibiliza, entre seus 10 cursos, o de “Tratamento de Esgotos Domésticos”, com início previsto para o dia 25 de abril. Para o Professor Eduardo Pacheco Jordão, coordenador deste curso, a ABES cumpre um importante papel ao qualificar profissionais do setor, sobretudo no segmento de tratamento de esgotos. Segundo ele, a iniciativa “preenche uma lacuna realmente existente e atua em benefício do engrandecimento do país.”

ABES Notícias – Qual é a situação do Brasil em relação ao tratamento de esgotos domésticos? Quais são os maiores desafios a serem superados nesta questão?
Eduardo Pacheco Jordão – No Brasil, cerca de 74% dos esgotos coletados chegam a ser tratados. Mas como apenas 55% dos esgotos gerados são coletados, isso significa que apenas cerca de 40% dos esgotos gerados são efetivamente tratados. Um péssimo número.

Eduardo Pacheco Jordão – Tratar esgotos significa controlar a poluição, preservar os corpos d’água, oferecer melhores condições de lazer, de saúde e de vida à população. É fundamental que o tema “tratamento de esgotos” seja bem conhecido, e mais que isso, que seja bem praticado.

Eduardo Pacheco Jordão – Não adianta querer investir nesse segmento se hão houver profissionais aptos a desenvolvê-lo. É assim fundamental investir no aprendizado em tratamento de esgotos, tanto para profissionais de nível superior como para nível médio. Existe uma lacuna evidente em relação a operadores qualificados neste segmento.
