ABES, 51 anos: uma história de conquistas e muitos desafios pela frente, por Roberval Tavares de Souza

Neste 15 de junho, nossa Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Ambiental completa 51 anos.  Mais de meio século de atuação que muito nos orgulha. Ao longo de sua história, a ABES vem reunindo os mais qualificados profissionais e estudiosos relacionados ao Saneamento Ambiental e Meio Ambiente e trabalhado com afinco pela qualificação e pela melhoria do setor.

Nessa trajetória, a ABES obteve vitórias importantes para o benefício do Saneamento Ambiental e do Meio Ambiente e tem estado presente na luta nacional para reverter a grave situação da saúde no país. Participou ativamente das discussões e elaboração das leis do setor, oferecendo contribuições técnico-científicas, tanto para a Lei do Saneamento (Lei 11.445/2007) como para a lei que instituiu a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos (Lei 12.305/2010).

Em meio à crise político-econômico-social que assola nosso país, temos nos posicionado em defesa dos investimentos para o Saneamento e refutado com um debate transparente a privatização como solução única para o setor. Defendemos SIM a união do público e do privado e a busca constante pela excelência e eficiência em gestão para tirar o Brasil da lamentável posição em que nos encontramos e alcançar a universalização.

Internacionalmente, também temos ocupado espaços importantes de debate. A ABES tem sido reconhecida como a instituição brasileira capaz de unir os profissionais de todos os segmentos que atuam no saneamento, com resíduos sólidos, na drenagem urbana e na engenharia ambiental, com uma liderança significativa em todos esses campos.

Temos investido em inovação, com ações de comunicação, maior presença nas mídias e redes sociais e novas iniciativas envolvendo os associados individuais e corporativos e engajando e reconhecendo nossos voluntários.

A Associação tem valorizado cada vez mais o conhecimento e a troca de experiência, com a promoção de encontros de debates e eventos em todo o país, apoiados pelas Seções Estaduais, e a ampliação do número de Câmaras Temáticas e Técnicas, que têm reunido profissionais do mais alto calibre e contribuído para a discussão de questões locais e de âmbito nacional na pauta do setor, além da atuação de nossos associados em diversos fóruns e instâncias do poder público.

E este 51º aniversário é ainda mais especial em virtude de três grandiosas realizações: o Congresso ABES Fenasan, uma parceria com a Associação dos Engenheiros da Sabesp que promoverá o maior encontro de Saneamento Ambiental das Américas, de 2 a 6 de outubro; o PNQS, que traz diversas inovações, como novas categorias de premiação, entre elas, a que reconhece as ações na gestão de perdas de água e o Selo de Qualidade para empresas prestadoras de serviços, além de passar a ser realizado anualmente; e a UNIABES, a Universidade da ABES que iniciou este ano e já e a maior plataforma online do Brasil em cursos voltados ao Saneamento Ambiental.

Respeitando a tradição, mas com o olhar no futuro, a ABES tem estimulado a participação jovem com a ampliação do programa Jovens Profissionais do Saneamento. É uma grande satisfação ver que o Saneamento Ambiental no Brasil conta com jovens engajados e atuantes e que proliferam pelo país os núcleos do JPS.

Todas essas conquistas nos dão muita alegria e também uma certeza: de que temos um papel importante na sociedade brasileira, mas ainda muitos desafios a serem vencidos. Aos 51 anos, estamos em plena forma para continuar trabalhando para superá-los!

Quero agradecer a todos os nossos associados pelo país, aos nossos voluntários, que realizam um trabalho magnífico, aos profissionais do Saneamento Ambiental, às companhias de saneamento e entidades parceiras, que têm trilhado essa trajetória conosco.

Espero que possamos continuar juntos trabalhando pelo Saneamento Ambiental pela saúde e pela qualidade de vida das pessoas com a mesma paixão desses 51 anos de existência.
